Knowledge Bowl
What is Knowledge Bowl?
Knowledge Bowl is a competitive academic activity that is sponsored by all our regular league schools (Bayfield, Cortez, Ignacio, Miller, Pagosa Springs). Our team has two divisions, one for 6th graders and another made up of 7th and 8th graders combined. We have meets across our region.
How do I become eligible?
Eligibility is the same as all other school-sponsored extra-curricular activities. A student must maintain a “D” average in all classes to compete and must attend at least 2 practices a month to be eligible for competition.
When do we practice?
Practice is held nearly every Wednesday and Thursday throughout the school year. Practice runs for one hour from 3:30 - 4:30. At practice, we will take sample written rounds and compete in oral rounds to perfect our buzzer-tapping skills, hand-signal communication, and question answering ability. To practice on your own you only need to remain curious, continue to learn from all experiences, and read, read, read. Watching educational television and Jeopardy! are also good ways to increase your general knowledge base.
What are we practicing for?
We compete in approximately 6 competitions per school year. Each meet consists of a written round to be held first and then a series of oral rounds in which our teams compete against two other teams. Each team is comprised of 4 members and a few alternates. Point totals are kept throughout the meet and awards are given to the top 3 teams at the end of the competition.
When can I join?
The door is always open, so join our team when it works for you.
