Three School Board Seats Available

The County Clerk has been notified that Durango School District 9-R will be participating in the coordinated election in November.  The Board of Education will have three four-year seats up for election --- District A (currently filled by Nancy Stubbs), District C (currently filled by Kim Martin), and District E (previously filled by Andy Burns).

Check In for the 2017/18 School Year at Escalante Middle School

Students who registered last spring and who are currently enrolled at Escalante will receive team assignment info at “Check In” in the cafetorium. Drop by between 4:00 – 6:00 PM on the dates listed below.
Incoming 6th graders on August 15th 4:00 – 6:00 PM

Durango School District 9-R has several great career opportunities that include full benefits, vacation and sick days, part-time options and, in many cases, summer off. For example, we are currently seeking part-time cooks to assist with our breakfast and lunch programs in the school.

Dear 9-R Families

We wanted to inform our families about a community meeting that will be held tonight regarding the Lightner Creek Fire. The county emergency manager and members from the Type II Emergency Management Team will provide updates on the fire, evacuation and pre-evacuation notices and address community concerns around the fire. The meeting will begin at 5:00 pm at Escalante Middle School, located at 141 Baker Lane, Durango, CO 81301.

Growing Great Brains Expo Educates the Community

Students from Duane Tucker's 6th grade language arts classes at Escalante and Erica Dey's AVID 7th graders from Miller presented their projects on the human brain to the community at Fort Lewis College Wednesday night. Their engaging presentations educated the public on topics ranging from how classroom furniture can impact learning to how the ability to change DNA can impact brain growth.

2017/18 School Supplies offered at a HUGE discount!

Escalante is excited to follow Florida Mesa and Park Elementary schools to offer Educational Products, Inc. school supply packs at a HUGE discount to families! Each package contains specific name-brand items requested by Escalante's grade-level teachers. Have an incoming 6th grader? Order the 6th grade package. 7th grader next year? Order the 7th grade package... Order your package online before June 16, or by paper order form by May 30 (return to EMS office) and the package will be waiting for your student in their first class August 21, 2017.
