4th- through 8th-grade students from 13 schools competed in the regional FIRST LEGO League Challenge at Escalante Middle School (EMS). The event was organized by the Powerhouse in Durango, which also supports LEGO League clubs for district schools.
Congratulations to the Escalante team members, who won the Robot Game Award in the competition. The Robot Game involved programming and designing a robot based on a LEGO robotics set. The task of the robot – about the size of a soccer ball – is to solve as many missions as possible on a challenge board and collect points.
Park Elementary School's "Crazy Awesome" team, and Riverview's "Challenge Team 2" also participated in Saturday's competition. Here is the list of regional winners, with the first three advancing to the state competition:

- Innovation Project Award: Dragonfly Revolution 36546 (Mancos)
LEGO League is so much more than simply playing with LEGOs! Our schools' after-school teams learn the fundamentals of engineering as they explore real-world problems, learn to design and code, and compete to solve challenges.
